Relationship Therapy

We can help you revive and renew your relationships

Have you struggled in your relationships?

Have you struggled to make friends?

Do you get anxious when you have to talk or interact with others?

Have you been feeling alone in your romantic relationship?

Do you have a hard time communicating your needs and expectations?

Are you wanting to find a partner, but continue to struggle to find the right person for you?

Have you and your partner’s relationship been on the rocks lately?

As humans, we need connection. Even if you strongly believe you can survive and be just fine without other people, you will eventually feel the pangs of isolation and the empty feeling that often accompanies a lack of connection with others. More often than not, that desire to be alone or avoid interacting with others stems from difficult past experiences and/or trauma.

Having the ability to build, navigate, and enjoy the relationships in your life is a key factor in finding your sense of contentment and joy. These include relationships with your family, your friends, co-workers, and romantic partners to name just a few.

As kids, adolescents, and young adults, many of these relationships may feel easier to obtain due to the convenience of proximity and frequency.  You see the same people day in and day out at school, your neighborhood, summer jobs, college, and early jobs.  You have multiple opportunities to get to know and connect with people and thus building friendships and finding romantic partners may feel more within your grasp.

However, as adults, these conveniences don’t always exist.  In addition, you may start to notice that the dynamics with your family and early childhood friends no longer work for you. And let’s not even get started on finding romantic partners.  Meeting people with whom you vibe and who you can trust may feel overwhelming and impossible.  And as much as everyone is telling you that dating apps are the answer, your own experiences have felt fruitless and you’re wondering if maybe you’re destined to be alone.

All Relationships Have Their Ups and Downs

In a perfect world, you could have beautiful deeply connected relationships and build a kickass circle of trusted family, friends, co-workers, and partner(s) without any hiccups. It would feel easy to make friends. You would feel like you can count on your family and trust that they will love and support you. Finding partners would feel like a breeze.  While conflict is inevitable in healthy relationships, conflicts wouldn’t feel devastating and you would know exactly how to navigate difficult times with the people you love.  Your communication skills would be ON POINT. Your sex life would be fun, exciting, and fulfilling. And you would swear the people in your life truly know and see you because it’s as if they are mind readers, finishing your sentences, knowing exactly when you need extra love, and knowing when you just need some alone time.

But, life isn’t always a fairytale, and it’s very common to face some hardships in your relationships. Difficult events and life transitions like relocation, starting your dream job or  losing a job, mental health difficulties, experiencing the death of a loved one, becoming a parent, or having a hard time finding balance in your life can be incredibly overwhelming. This will inevitably put a strain on current relationships and may make it difficult to build new ones. Arguments feel too draining.  Developing and maintaining connections feels like just another “thing” on the to do list.  Even a phone call might be too much. You’ve lost your ability to communicate your needs and it’s unclear if you have the energy to actually rebuild that muscle.

But total isolation and withdrawl leads you right back to those feelings of loneliness, making it harder to actually feel content in the life you are living.  Because, remember, humans NEED connection even if we think we can survive without it.

The good news, however, is that with the help of a compassionate, experienced  therapist you can get to the root of that lonlieness and develop the skills to create that circle of people who help you thrive in this life!

Relationship Therapy Can Help You Build a Thriving Connected Circle

In your sessions, your therapist will do a detailed history of all of the relationships you’ve had in your life from your special connection with your grandma, to your strained relationship with your mom, to your bestie in middle school, to the co-worker who irks your nerves, and the ex who you just can’t seem to let go of now matter how hard you try.

The goal is to understand your beliefs and values regarding relationships as well as understand how you show up in relationships.  We’ll assess your communication patterns, feelings about conflict, beliefs about sex and sexuality, understand your sexual identity and much more.  No topic is off limits.  No discussion too taboo.  We are here to do that deep dive that most therapists either fear or just don’t engage in, but that we understand is paramount to you finding the relationships that work for you.

We also believe in helping you heal.  Often the difficulties in current relationships are the result of past hurts. And it’s literally impossible to build that amazing circle of folks that you’ve dreamed of without dropping the weights that are holding you back.

But You May Still Have Questions About Relationship Therapy

Isn’t relationship therapy for couples?

Yes, one of the reasons that people go to relationship therapy is to work on the dynamic between two (or more) people.  At the same time, those are not the only relationships where difficulties arise.  In fact, we’ve found that working on building healthier relationships for yourself, developing healthy skills to navigate relationships, and understanding the patterns that keep you continuously inviting people into your life that weigh you down versus building you up will ultimately put you in a place to build amazing connections not only with romantic partners, but also with friends, family, and co-workers.

In our sessions we encourage you to open up about all of your feelings as well as the issues you have been dealing with. Each of you will get to share your perspective and we’ll explore the root of these issues which may lead to learning and dealing with problems you weren’t aware of. However, it is better to make sure everything is laid out on the table so you can address it, resolve it, and heal from it rather than keeping it to yourself. Anything that’s not addressed will eventually show up in your relationship, why not get help with it now?

How do I know if I need help with my relationships?

It’s important to remember that you don’t need to wait until there’s a problem for you to take advantage of relationship therapy. In fact, we believe that therapy is beneficial for all of us and therapy sessions are a great place to explore your relationship patterns.  You can view it as a check-up, especially if you have experienced some difficulties in any of your relationships with others.

There’s also no problem too small for therapy. If you feel like you need help expressing yourself or addressing a problem, we can help!

I heard relationship therapy is expensive, what if I can’t afford it?

It’s important that you look at therapy as an investment in yourself and both your current, and future relationships. An investment that could lead to a loving, healthy relationships in which you feel heard, understood, and loved. We want you to feel like this investment makes complete and total sense because your sense of peace, finding your voice, and having relationships that give you all the feels is worth it!

While we are not paneled with any insurance companies, we still believe in helping our clients obtain the best possible care. We are Out of Network Providers, which means we can help you submit claims to your insurance so that you can take advantage of your out of network benefits. We take care of that process (if you would like) so you do not have to worry about any of the red tape or paperwork. We also gladly accept vouchers from the Love Land Foundation to help offset the cost of your therapy. Please don’t let cost be your barrier. Give us a call and let’s talk about it.
