Feel empowered to be your best and most authentic self!

Hi!  I’m Dr. Melissa Robinson-Brown.  Probably feels like a mouthful right?!?!  Most people call me Dr. Mel for short.   I’m pretty excited that you’re reading this because to me, that means that the idea of therapy has been somewhere floating around in your brain.  And now you’re at the point of exploring potential options.

So let’s figure out if we would be a good fit!

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, but you might also call me an empowerment enabler, a self-acceptance guide, and a mind-body connector.  I help women who wish they could confidently identify and show up as their true authentic selves in interpersonal relationships and also those who want to feel empowered while navigating difficult life situations and transitions.   For many of my clients, a lack of skills, low self-esteem, minimal self-empathy, and/or past hurts tend to get in the way of hitting those goals that they set for themselves.  Ultimately, this results in feelings of depression, anxiety, emotion dysregulation, and possibly even self-harm.

My philosophy

I believe that developing a genuine and trusting therapeutic relationship with my clients is the foundation for success in therapy.  I guide my clients in the use of mindfulness techniques, behavioral strategies, skills building, as well as some good old fashioned self-care practice so they can feel renewed and create a life where they feel comfortable and confident in their own skin.  I take a holistic approach to my work, emphasizing the connection between the wellness of the mind as well as the body.  This means that we’re going to dive into how you take care of yourself both physically and mentally.   I consider myself to have a warm, laid back style, with a funky and fun edge.  I strive to create a safe, judgement-free, and calming space that is culturally sensitive and attentive to the needs of my clients so their session time is truly “me” time.

What Does This Mean For You?

It means it’s time to feel empowered and comfortable in your own skin!  Discovering and understanding yourself better can be quite the process.  I’m not saying the journey will be easy.  In fact, there may be times when you want to give up, hide under the covers, ignore the phone calls and e-mails, and pretend that you don’t actually need to address these difficulties.  But that’s exactly when I’ll be there to support and push you past that comfort zone so you can also experience your own benefits, which could include, improved mood, decreased anxiety, an ability to navigate the work/career world in a much more empowered manner, better parent and teen relationship dynamics, improved self-esteem, reductions in self-harming behaviors, and better relationships with friends, colleagues, partners, and family.

Fun Facts

I’m a fitness, health, and wellness enthusiast!  I love using and incorporating mindfulness in my personal life and with my clients.

I’m a mom of 3 little girls and I strive to be engaged with my kids while also teaching them about independence, strength, and vulnerability.  It’s not always easy, and I’m sure there have been many fails, but it’s a TON of fun!

I enjoy outdoor sports and like taking on different sports related physical challenges (think Tough Mudder and City Challenges).  On a sunny day (or sometimes a rainy one too), you will either find me running while getting lost in a soul bumping playlist or outside having a great meal while getting lost in a good book!
